Meekness and temperance are part of the provisions that God has given us to overcome the flesh. Whether that’s keeping our tongue, our thoughts, our temper, or our anger under God’s control, God has made provision for it all. Since God’s Spirit is doing the work in us, we’re not “using” these tools. We must surrender to them and by doing so, God helps us to overcome. Galatians 5:23. VF-2460.

The faith that’s spoken of in Galatians 5:22 is more than just exercising faith in response to hearing God’s Word, or the gift of faith that’s spoken of in 1 Corinthians 12. It’s an attribute of God, an added measure of faith which He deposits in us as part of His nature. When we stand on God’s statement of faith that He has "amened" the building of His church, then we can expect to be used as His conduits to make that statement come to pass. John 15:1-2, Galatians 5:22. VF-2459.

The fruit of the Spirit listed in Galatians 5 describes attributes of God in us. The fruit of gentleness is not a description of a weak Christian. The original Greek word is better translated as useful or profitable to God or our fellow man. When we yield to God, He will enable us and make us profitable to Him and His goodness will be operating in us. Galatians 5. VF-2458.

The joy that comes from God is completely separate and distinct from fleshly, carnal joy or happiness. It’s not natural to us and we cannot will to have it. It’s a dimension of God’s nature that flows out of divine love, which He imparts to us by the vehicle of the Holy Spirit. It has multiple meanings throughout the Bible, and it’s a tool that God uses to equip us for service and our daily lives. VF-2455.

Part of our spiritual problems stem from a lack of deeper connection with God. We must examine the nature of our relationship, and where we may be lacking in order to move forward. Are we putting our needs first, or are we focused on expressing gratitude to Him? Building for God begins with expressing gratitude. Ezekiel 44. VF-2453.
