It is impossible to mix the law and grace.  Modern preachers push trifles of their own invention on us, claiming they are necessary for salvation.  No externally applied mark of conformity to the law will save you.  If you rely on your works, you are a debtor to keep the whole law, Christ is of no effect to you, and you are fallen from grace.  God will not tolerate behavior that says Christ is not enough.
