There are two types of people: those who serve self and those who serve God. Isaiah juxtaposes Shebna, who identified with the flesh and death, with Eliakim, who put God first and whose name means “one whom God raises up.” Eliakim is a type of Christ, and God fastened him as a nail in a sure place, whereas everything Shebna heaped upon himself was taken away. We all need to take “spiritual inventory” of whom we identify with and where we place our focus.
