Onesimus was a runaway slave when Paul birthed him into God’s kingdom. At Paul’s request, he was restored to a much better state. Similarly, we are slaves to the world, the flesh, and the devil. We are unprofitable to God until we subject ourselves to the better state of slavery to Christ. This New Testament kind of slavery should not be seen as a pejorative state but as an honor and a privilege.
