Using both biblical and secular records, we can establish a timeline for the exodus out of Egypt. The people traditionally referred to as “Jews” were not Jews at the time of the exodus; they would have been known as “Hebrews” or as “the children of Israel.” Understanding this will help us clear up any cultural confusion about these people.
