Hebrews declares that without holiness, no man shall see the Lord. The word “holy” has a complicated history and has been defined incorrectly in the church and in the world. Holiness is something (whether animate or inanimate) that God says, “This is holy, this is mine; I’m claiming it.” It is set apart for God. Wherever God’s presence is, we can attach a bridge that says, “holy”. As you abide in the Word, the Word abides in you, and therefore His presence by His word, abides in you. Peter also says, “You are a holy, royal priesthood,” declaring all believers to be set apart, not because we possess purity or because we are ritually clean or unclean, but because God opened our eyes and ears to hear and receive.
