The book of Haggai speaks to those who returned from captivity to rebuild the temple, but they stopped and went to rebuild their own houses.  They were told to put God first, tend to His house, and stop being self-serving.  This book speaks to us today as well.  God will enable us to take care of His house, and He will not abandon us if we put Him first in all things.
