Many know the Bible story, in Judges 7, of Gideon and how he won a great battle against a much larger army with only trumpets and pitchers and lamps. That battle wasn’t won in the field, though, the battle was won when Gideon was still in the vineyard threshing wheat in Judges 6. Gideon started his encounter with the Lord full of the vocabulary of doubt, but the Lord promised Gideon, “Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.” Gideon made an offering and made his peace with God and built an altar called Jehovah-shalom and committed his way to obey the Lord.
