1 Kings 11; Genesis 48, 49; 1 Chronicles 5
In Genesis 48, the main birthright promises, including carrying on the name of Israel and being a multitude of nations, went to Joseph's younger son, Ephraim. Hundreds of years later, when Solomon's kingdom was split, the Northern Kingdom was called Ephraim or Israel, the Southern Kingdom was called Judah. Southern Kingdom inhabitants were then referred to as Judahee, or Jews, for the first time.
