Just before God brought the judgment of exile upon Judah, the people were profaning and desecrating His temple by worshiping unclean animals, Tammuz the Assyrian fertility god, and the sun inside of it.  This was the last straw for God.  This message is an overview of the book of Ezekiel.  The whole book is needed to understand why God punished His people.
