God builds His church through the work and activity of the Holy Spirit in us, not by human enterprise.  Paul’s description of being crucified with Christ is an identification with Him by the power of the Resurrection. That power changes the believer from what they were to one in union with Christ. He gave His life for us.  A reflection on that should produce a pattern of devotion toward God. Galatians 2:20.
