From their conception there was bad blood between Jacob, aka “Israel” and his brother Esau, aka “Edom.”  Tensions between their descendants continued after their death and run all the way through the Bible.  Obadiah picked up on this and prophesied of Edom’s downfall.  While this part of the prophecy has come to pass, it stands as a modern message, warning us to guard against godlessness and pride which was the root of Edom’s downfall.
