Meekness and temperance are part of the provisions that God has given us to overcome the flesh.  Whether that’s keeping our tongue, our thoughts, our temper, or our anger under God’s control, God has made provision for it all.  Since God’s Spirit is doing the work in us, we’re not “using” these tools.  We must surrender to them and by doing so, God helps us to overcome.
