When we say, “My God” or “The God of me”, it means more than possessing God.  Our vocabulary does not offer the right words to express its meaning but one analogy would be water to a dry and thirsty land.  Paul thanked the God of him for the church at Rome because even though it was a very rich, powerful, and well educated, it was their faith that was spoken of throughout the world.
