The essence of sin is the desire to put ourselves in God’s place and make everyone relate to our standard. God is the Boss and He is making up His jewels.  In Romans 1, there is a warning to everyone who has heard the truth and willfully worships the creature and the creation instead of the Creator.  God says that His Spirit will not always strive with man, and that tendency to justify ourselves will lead God to turn us over to a strong delusion and be damned.
